Synopsis
Agata, a young Mexican girl , crosses the ocean to learn about her roots and learn more about the
mysterious death of her Sicilian mother. Once in Catania she meets Paulina, her half-sister, who
perhaps knows something about the tragedy. Against the backdrop of the pagan Christian
celebration of Sant’Agata where a million fire worshipers gather, the journey becomes a magical
ritual that will culminate with the ascension of the volcano about to erupt.
Director’s notes
This is a mysterious journey, between an evoked Mexico and an ancestral Sicily.
A journey into a new world, by a young woman who comes from distant lands, who brings her
magic with her as a common language, a passport to a mystical portal, personified by the
volcano. Agata, the main character, fragile and powerful at the same time, moves within a
dark parallel dimension, without letting us get too close. Her fears are masked by an
almost tragic determination, the sometimes childish awareness of not belonging to this
world.
